Families of Ingleside who School at Home
Our Purpose
1. Adore God
At the very heart of each of our
Mother's breakfast meetings is our time of worship. One of our
members shares a Bible passage and devotion which is relevant to our
needs as home schooling parents. We share all manner of prayer
requests and praise reports, followed by our time for prayer. We
are conscious of the fact that we are gathered in the name of Christ,
and we are so thankful to know that He is with us.
2. Bring People to Christ
Our primary objective is the
salvation of our children.
3. Develop Believers to Maturity
As Dr. McCoy has shared on
several occasions, it is essential for spiritual growth that each of us
belongs to a small group that will support, encourage, and challenge us
in our daily walk with Christ. For many of the women who actively
participate, FISH is that small group which nurtures us spiritually and
helps us feel "connected" to IBC more intimately. It is
genuinely a blessing to be able to share life's struggles and triumphs
with those who care and will pray with you and rejoice with you over the
answers God gives. The relationships that we form during the
regularly scheduled activities are the same ones we lean on all month
long.
4. Equip Members for Ministry
a) The majority of us who choose to home
school our children do so, not out of convenience or as a last resort,
but from a belief that this is God's calling for our family at this
time. As such, it is ministry, and the FISH group seeks the equip
its members spiritually as well as technically.
b) We believe that it is also
important for our children to learn to look for ministry opportunities
around them. That is why we chose to have our Christmas party with
the IBC Senior Adults in 2001 and went caroling to some of Ingleside's
homebound seniors in 2002. It gave us the chance to share our
festivities with them and to begin to form relationships with some of
them as well, opening the door for other ministry possibilities in the
future.
FISH FAQS
How often do you meet?
The FISH group meets every month.
What do you do?
During that month we usually have a time for just the moms to get
together and worship. Most of the time we will go for breakfast at
a restaurant or at someone's house. Childcare is provided by the
Church for all ages. You should call the preschool
office and make childcare reservation. This usually lasts from
9-12.
Also during the month we get all the kids together with the moms and go
on some type of field trip, do some type of missionary work, or make
some kind of craft and play at the gym.
We don't forget about the Dads! We also include them for things
like family night dinners, family field trips, or lunch after church
with our families.
What's the Book Club?
We have a book club that meets once a month. It is a group of moms
that pick a book to read. Then they read it and discuss it at the
next meeting. We have a lot of ladies who really love this.
If you need more information on this, you can call Leanne.
Who should I contact for
more information?
The leader of our group and contact person is Stephanie Henson.
You can contact her by calling the church office at 477-7251 and
asking for her number.
If you are new and have any questions
about this information you may also feel free to call Leanne May
or Mary Ann Fite.
Please feel free to come
and see what we're all about!
