Why Grace Really Is Amazing

Message series continues this Sunday

On January 8, we began a careful, biblical look at the biblical doctrine of grace. In the first four messages, we learned together . . .

(1) A definition of grace. It is, simply put, “God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense.” It is the favor that God bestows on those who do not deserve it and could never earn it.

(2) We are saved by grace. Ephesians 2:8-10 states this truth succinctly: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (ESV).

(3) Grace is rooted in God’s eternal plan. As 2 Timothy 1:9 says, God “has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time” (NIV).

(4) God’s sovereignty is the biblical context for grace. When the first believers prayed, the said: “Sovereign Lord, . . .” (Acts 4:24, ESV). Scripture clearly affirms that God is sovereign in creation, in revelation, and in human history.

Now we are asking if God is sovereign in salvation. Or, put another way, have we been chosen by grace? I look forward to seeing you as we continue our study this Sunday.

Semi-Annual Church Conference

Wednesday night, February 29, 7:45 p.m., Room D-211

As mandated by our Bylaws, our church meets twice a year for a church conference – once in February and once in August. At our February meeting we will hear reports and updates on our various ministries, receive the report on our annual audit, and have a time for questions and answers.

The conference is at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday night, February 29 in Room D-211 (over the east entrance to the Worship Center). Make plans now to attend the Semi-Annual Church Conference to be “up on” all that’s going on at Ingleside!

It’s a great joy to be on this journey with you. And I’m convinced, the best is yet to come!

Your Pastor and Friend,

Tim McCoy
