Did you know that “membership” is a biblical idea?
Romans 12:4-5 says: “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another” (ESV). The same truth is found in 1 Corinthians 12.
Membership communicates your commitment to the Lord and to the other members of the body. It says, “I’m all in. You can count on me. I will participate, give, and serve so that the body of Christ will be built up. I’m committed to being a member here.”
I hope to see you in the Membership Class this Sunday afternoon, June 10, at 4:00 p.m. in Room F-300 (above the East Entrance to the Worship Center).
Young Adult Ministry Transition
Blake Jenkins, our Young Adult Pastor since December 2015, has recently accepted the call of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, to be their College Pastor. Blake’s last day on our team will be Tuesday, June 12.
I hope you will join me in expressing your love and appreciation to Blake and Becca for their ministry among us for the past two and one half years. They have served well, and we pray the Lord’s favor and blessing for them and their family as they begin this new chapter in ministry.
Building a Culture of Life
To follow Jesus is to be pro-life. Every person is created in the image of God and should be treated with dignity and respect (Genesis 1:26-26; cf. Matthew 19:4).
So, every follower of Christ should seek to help build a consistent culture of life – from conception to natural death – in which every person can live and flourish for the glory of God!
Our efforts in this direction are always most influential when they begin with our own personal example and when our words and actions are filled with the love, grace, and truth of our Lord Jesus.
Our efforts might also include participation in the public square to help prevent the opening of an abortion clinic in our community. A rally and march will be held on Friday, June 15, at noon in front of City Hall. Coordinated by the Kolbe Center, more information is here.
Of course, ultimately a culture of life can be built and sustained only through a God-centered worldview and by faith in Jesus Christ, who said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6a). Only in Jesus is there abundant and eternal life (John 3:16, 10:10).
What role would the Lord have you play in helping build a culture of life?
Your Pastor and Friend,
