Take the Next Step

Guest . . . regular attender . . . member.  It’s a journey that literally hundreds of people have made, and I hope you will make it too.  What’s the next step?  Come to the membership class this Sunday afternoon, August 18, at 4:00 p.m.

The dress is casual.  We serve you dinner.  No reservation is necessary.  There’s care for your kids.  You will learn all about Ingleside – what we believe, where we’ve been, where we’re headed, how you can get involved, and what’s expected of members.  We believe that the best time to learn all about a church is before you join it!

Still not sure you should come?  Hear the encouragement of two respected church leaders, Rick Warren and Henry Blackaby.

In The Purpose-Driven Church, Warren writes:  “Many American Christians are what I call ‘floating believers.’  Anywhere else in the world, being a believer is synonymous with being connected to a local body of believers—you rarely find a lone ranger Christian in other countries.  Many American Christians, however, hop from one church to another without any identity, accountability, or commitment.  This is a direct expression of America’s rampant individualism. . . . We grow in Christ by being in relationship to other Christians.” (p. 310)

In his study of how to know and do the will of God called Experiencing God, Blackaby writes:  “No one can become the kind of complete believer he ought to be outside the functioning body of a New Testament church.  Why?  Because God has set the discipling process in a body.  A person who is saved is called out and added to a spiritual body where Christ is the Head.  A person is only one part of the body, and he absolutely needs every other part of the body to help him function properly” (p. 113).

The reason these respected church leaders agree is because the biblical teaching at this point is crystal clear.  “Member” is a biblical word and “membership” is a biblical concept.  Romans 12:4-5 says:  “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others” (NIV)

Is it time for you to take the next step?  The next membership class is this Sunday, August 18, at 4:00 p.m.  Just come in the main entrance on the east side of the Worship Center and someone will be there to greet you.  I hope to see you Sunday afternoon!
