Caring for Our Community
As the government shutdown continues, food insecurity has become a concern for many people. Food banks are expecting the number of people they serve to increase and are therefore needing additional donations. So how can we help?
- This week, Ingleside has donated to three food banks at local churches in our area. We estimate that these donations will provide approximately 1,000 meals. We are also praying that those who receive the meals will have a chance to hear the gospel and will have someone pray with them.
- If you are interested in making a donation on your own, the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank is having a “Stuff the Truck” event on Thursday, November 20, at Walmart on Zebulon Road, 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. You can find more details by clicking here.
Jesus taught us that when we provide food for people who need it, not only are we loving our neighbors, but ultimately we are serving the Lord himself (Matthew 25:34-40). I am thankful for a church that has both the desire and the ability to serve the Lord and care for our community in this way.
Acts 1:8 Speaker
As part of our Acts 1:8 Weekend, this Sunday in all three services, we will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Todd Lafferty, who has served as the Executive Vice President of the International Mission Board since 2019.
Dr. Lafferty first served as a journeyman missionary in Scotland from 1983 to 1985. He and his wife, Susan, were appointed in 1991 as career IMB missionaries to a large South Asian city, where he was pastor of an international church and, later, a strategy coordinator. From 2000 to 2003, he served as a missionary candidate consultant based in Richmond, Virginia.
The Laffertys returned to the mission field in 2003. His roles included strategy associate in the Pacific Rim region, interim regional leader of the Pacific Rim, and the affinity group leader for South Asian peoples. Dr. Lafferty also served as pastor of mobilization for Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, from 2016 to 2019.
He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned a Doctor of Missiology from Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary.
