Called Conference Q and A

Our church family will gather in a called conference this Sunday afternoon, March 10, at 3:00 p.m. in the Worship Center to vote on the nomination of Pastor Justin Nalls as our next Lead Pastor.

For more information about Pastor Justin and the Lead Pastor search process, please see the brochure here and the video here.

Here are the answers to a few questions you may have:

Q. Why are we having the called conference?
A. Because our church Bylaws state: “The election of the Lead Pastor shall occur at a Church business conference called specifically for that purpose. No name shall be considered or nominated except that recommended by the Pastor Search Committee and approved by the Board of Overseers. The vote shall be by secret ballot and shall require a three-fourths vote of the members present and voting for election” (V, A).

Q. Who gets to vote?
A. The Bylaws state: “Every member of the Church 16 years and older shall have the right to vote on all matters presented to the Church for consideration in church conference. Each member is entitled to one vote. Voting by proxy is prohibited” (I, D).

Q. How will I receive a ballot?
A. When you arrive, check-in at one of our tablet kiosks in the center of the Gathering Area. Staff will be present to assist. You will receive a printed name tag when you check-in. Be sure to wear it because only those with printed name tags will receive a ballot as they enter the Worship Center.

Q. When should I arrive?
A. Check-in begins, and doors to the Worship Center will open at 2:30 p.m. So, arrive early, check-in, get your name tag, receive your ballot, and be in the Worship Center ready to vote at 3:00 p.m.

Q. Who will lead the conference?
A. Our Overseer Chairman, Johnny Mitchell, will call the meeting to order and guide us through the voting process. Since there is only one agenda item (the vote), the meeting will be brief. Once ballots are marked (pens are in the seatbacks) and collected, the conference will be adjourned.

Q. Will childcare be provided?
A. No. Since the conference will be brief, no childcare is provided. Your children may attend with you, even if they are not eligible to vote.

Q. When and how will the results of the vote be announced?
A. The outcome will be reported by our Overseer Chairman by email later Sunday to everyone who subscribes to our weekly “Inside Ingleside” e-newsletter. If you are not subscribed, you may do so here.

I hope you will plan to participate this Sunday afternoon as our church takes this significant next step in our pastoral succession journey!
