Overseer Recommendations

Overseer Recommendations

According to the Bible, there are two “offices” in the church – Overseer/Elder/Pastor (all three words refer to the same office) and Deacon. Of course, there are lots of other roles within the church and lots of ways to serve, but these are two roles that are specified in the Bible, and we are given certain qualities for those who serve these roles.

At Ingleside, Deacons and their wives together make up the Deacon Ministry Team and, under the leadership of Pastor Mark Hudgins, focus on care for widows. Potential deacons are recommended by staff leadership to the Board of Overseers and are then voted on by the church.

As outlined in our bylaws, Overseers at Ingleside have three principal responsibilities:

  1. To provide accountability for the Lead Pastor
  2. To ensure financial integrity within our church
  3. To establish church policies

Potential Overseers are recommended by church members, and each one is considered by the Nominating Committee. Those selected by the Nominating Committee are interviewed by the Chairman of the Overseers and the Lead Pastor, and then voted on by the church.

The biblical qualities for Overseers are listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9:

1.        A desire to serve as an Overseer 11. Not a lover of money
2.        Above reproach 12. Not greedy
3.        The husband of one wife 13. Not quarrelsome
4.        Sober-minded 14. Manages his own household well
5.        Self-controlled 15. Not a recent convert
6.        Respectable 16. Well thought of by outsiders
7.        Hospitable 17. A lover of good
8.        Able to teach 18. Upright
9.        Not a drunkard 19. Holy
10.  Not violent but gentle 20. Disciplined

Inside the worship folder, this week and next week, you will find an Overseer recommendation form. If you know of men who have the listed qualities and you think would serve well as an Overseer, complete the form and turn it in on your way out of the worship service. Our Nominating Committee will review each recommendation and develop a list of nominees, which will be presented to the church and voted on at our Semi-Annual Church Conference in August.

Macon Impact

Don’t forget to go to our Missions web page to see the various options and register for the one (or more!) you would like to participate in. If you have questions, you can contact our Missions team or talk to them in person in the Gathering Area on Sunday morning.

Let’s let the people of our city know that we love them, care about them, and want them to know the hope, joy, and peace – the abundant life! – that we have in Christ.

Families 4 Families Foster Care Partnership

As part of Macon Impact, you can donate gift cards to foster care families so that they can eat out. Those will be collected in the Ingleside Bookstore.

On Sunday, April 26, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in Room W-200, we will have an informational meeting for anyone interested in helping with foster care in any way.

Whether you are interested in exploring the possibility of fostering, or you are interested in supporting families who do, this meeting is for you!

With the affection of Christ,
