Thanks to Our Nominating Committee
Every member is on mission. Every member has a role to play in making disciples. Some of those roles are more leadership-oriented, and the Bible makes clear that who serves in those leadership roles is important.
Consider Titus 1, when the apostle Paul is writing to Titus. He says, “This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained in order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you…” (Titus 1:5). He goes on to list the qualities needed for an elder (also known in the New Testament as an overseer) to serve well. The message is clear – who serves in that role matters for the overall health of the church.
I am thankful that at Ingleside, we have a great process for selecting Overseers. It includes congregation-wide input, consideration by a Nominating Committee, personal interviews, and election by the church.
On May 12 and 14, our Nominating Committee met to select new nominees to serve as Overseers. As always, the beginning point for the Committee was consideration of the biblical qualifications for Overseers. Then, there was a careful review of the responsibilities as outlined in our Constitution and Bylaws. The Committee considered every name that was submitted by the church. They approached the task prayerfully, humbly, and honestly.
So, please join me in saying thanks to those who served on the Nominating Committee this year. They included: Scott Brown, Salina Cook, Kari Dobson, John Fry, Phillip Hebert, Janelle Holleman, Johnny Jones, Keilah Jones, Rikki Phillips, Baxter Sowell, Trisha Woods, Ron Yaun, and Rob McCormack, who served as Chairman by virtue of his role as Overseer Chairman.
The Chairman and I will be meeting with each of the prospective nominees and their spouses. Once the interviews are completed, biographical information about those who are nominated will be distributed to the Church in mid-August.
The formal election is scheduled to occur as a part of our Semi-Annual Church Conference on Wednesday night, August 26.
Please join me in praying for those with whom we visit and for the Lord’s guidance and direction as we walk through the remaining steps in this leadership selection process.
With the affection of Christ,
